Garst Named Lung Cancer Hero
Jennifer L. Garst, MD, a thoracic medical oncologist at Duke Cancer Center Raleigh and professor of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine, has been named a Lung Cancer Hero by CURE Media Group. The group's inaugural 2020 Lung Cancer Heroes™ awards recognize those who have gone above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of those affected by lung cancer. This year the group is bestowing this honor on four individuals.
As a lung cancer specialist, Garst has provided extraordinary cancer care, and, as a tireless advocate for her patients, she has made significant lasting contributions to the lung cancer advocacy community. She is the founder and current board chair of the Lung Cancer Initiative (LCI) of North Carolina and was the founding chair of LCI’s Scientific Advisory Committee. Garst has numerous publications, including 42 peer-reviewed journals, eight non-refereed, one book chapter and more than 30 published scientific reviews and selected abstracts.
Garst will be celebrated at a virtual ceremony on Thursday, October 15, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the eve of (and in conjunction with) the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer 2020 North America Conference on Lung Cancer, a worldwide virtual event to be held on Oct. 16 & 17.

LUNGe Forward for Week-Long Celebration (9.26.20 to 10.3.20)
Duke Raleigh Hospital is the Survivor, Families & Friends sponsor for this year's Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina Triangle LUNGe Forward 2-Mile Walk & Celebration. The week-long event, virtual this year, kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 9 a.m. on LCI's Facebook page.
A week of virtual special events — including gardening tips, yoga, cooking class, and game night — will also be held during this period, culminating in a virtual wrap-up to celebrate the event's success on Saturday, October 3. MORE INFORMATION
