Personalized Victory Ride Slated for Month of August

By: Julie Poucher Harbin, Senior Writer, DCI

"This is no ordinary bike ride. We are taking on cancer. We ride for the 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women who will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. We ride to celebrate the survivors and honor those we have lost. We ride to support research locally and throughout the U.S. We ride individually and as a community to defeat cancer."

After carefully monitoring ongoing COVID-19 developments, the V Foundation for Cancer Research has reimagined the Victory Ride to Cure Cancer presented by Braswell Family Farms to be a more personal experience this year.
Cyclists are encouraged to join in with their "Don’t Ever Give Up! spirit" to ride any distance, any time and any place throughout the month of August. This year’s registration fee and fundraising minimum has been waived.
This is the third annual Victory Ride to Cure Cancer. Duke Cancer Institute is a proud sponsor.
One hundred percent of rider-raised funds support research by Duke Cancer Institute, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and Wake Forest Baptist Health Comprehensive Cancer Center, as well as breakthrough cancer research nationwide.
Last year the V Ride raised more than $230,000. The DCI team — led by executive director of DCI, Michael Kastan, MD, PhD, and colorectal cancer survivor Ryan Switzer — raised more than $20,000.
Kastan and Switzer are co-captaining Team DCI again this year.
