CFA: REACH Equity Career Development Award (11.30.18)

July 12, 2018
By: Duke CTSI

The Duke Center for REsearch to AdvanCe Healthcare Equity (REACH Equity) is seeking applications for a mentored research career development award (CDA) for junior faculty. REACH Equity will address racial and ethnic disparities in health by developing and testing interventions that improve the quality of patient-centered care in the clinical encounter – a setting in which racial and ethnic disparities are well-documented. Applicants for the REACH Equity CDA must propose research related to this theme.

The center plans to fund up to 3 REACH Equity CDAs in this call for applications. Consistent with our Center’s goal of increasing diversity in the research work-force, we have set as a programmatic priority the selection of at least 50% of awardees from under-represented racial and ethnic groups.

The REACH Equity CDA provides up to $75,000 direct costs per year for two years. Applicants are expected to use the award to protect at least 50% of TPE.

  • Individuals considering applying for a REACH Equity CDA are strongly encouraged to submit a Letter of Intent. The Letter of Intent form for the REACH Equity CDA is available on the award web site page here. Download, complete and send the Letter of Intent by August 17, 2018 to cheryl.j.miller@duke.edu.
  • Potential applicants are also strongly encouraged to participate in the joint Reach Equity and KL2 Program Application Preparation Program (REKAPP). This special program will assist investigators with preparing their applications for the November 30, 2018 deadline (for funding beginning July 1, 2019). Starting in September before the application deadline, REKAPP participants meet as small groups for targeted discussions focusing on specific sections of the grant application (similar to the School of Medicine K-club). These meetings will be facilitated by a senior faculty member and K program alumni. Space in this program is limited, and those accepted are expected to commit to completing all program requirements. Information about the REKAPP program and how to apply by the August 17, 2018 deadline is available on the REKAPP web site here. Download, complete and send the Letter of Intent by August 17, 2018 to cheryl.j.miller@duke.edu.
