The Duke Multidisciplinary Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology Program will host its annual CRUSH Colorectal Cancer 5K and Walk on Saturday, March 9, at the Shops at Northgate in Durham. The event raises funds to support colorectal cancer research at Duke. Last year's event attracted more than 1,000 participants who, together, raised more than $81,000.
In support of the event, Candygrams are available for purchase for just $5. Candygrams will be delivered to lucky faculty and staff during the week of Valentines. Order forms can be downloaded or requested by contacting Sherri Haley. Organizers are also selling baseball caps, which are available for $25. To order, contact Wanda Honeycutt. According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in the United States. Every year more than140,000 people are diagnosed with colon or rectal cancer, and every year, more than 50,000 die from this disease. Recent advances have significantly contributed to improving screening and treatment, and have resulted in a growing population of colorectal cancer survivors.
The 2019 CRUSH Colorectal Cancer 5K and Walk will start and finish at the Shops at Northgate, 1720 Guess Road, in Durham, North Carolina. Participants are encouraged to form teams and raise funds. For more information or to register, visit CRUSH 5K.
