Duke To LUNGe Forward In Race For A Cure

Neal Ready, MD, PhD, Honorary Team Captain, Duke Cancer Center RaleighThe Lung Cancer Inititative of North Carolina will host its 11th annual LUNGe Forward 5K, presented by Duke Raleigh Hospital, on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 12:30 p.m. at Midtown Park at North Hills Mall in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina is the state’s leading non-profit organization supporting lung cancer research and education. The Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina specializes in connecting patients, survivors and family members with the medical and research community.

According to the Lung Cancer Initiative, about  8,559 North Carolinians are diagnosed with lung cancer, and more than 6,186 are expected to succumb to the effects of their disease this year. Since 2008 the Lung Cancer Initiative has funded over $1.1 million in lung cancer research and is currently funding more than $200,000 in lung cancer research grants at Duke.

This year's Team Duke Cancer Institute will be led by thoracic oncologist Neal Ready, MD, PhD. Ready invites faculty, staff and patients to step out with him on Sept. 24.
