A Message To Our DCI Nurses

By: Kim Slusser, MSN, RN, CHPN, NEA-BC, Assistant VP/Chief of Oncology Nursing Services

As we approach the final days of Oncology Nursing Month, I want to thank you for what you do each and every day. This year’s theme is the “The Art of Caring. The Science of Care.” What a wonderfully simple way to describe the complex care oncology nurses provide.

You are there with your patients and their loved ones throughout the many phases of their cancer journey—celebrating victories and providing comfort during the many challenges. I hope throughout the month, you take time to reflect and take pride in the positive impact you have on your patients and beyond. I hope you take time to recognize one another for the amazing care you provide and the commitment you have to each other. I am so proud to be part of this team.

“As a nurse, we have the opportunity to heal the heart, mind, soul and body of our patients, their families and ourselves. They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” — Maya Angelou
