By: NCONA

The North Carolina Oncology Navigator Association will host their annual conference "Navigation Interventions in Supportive Care" on Friday, June 21, at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education,University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on 100 Friday Center Drive in Chapel Hill.

Co-sponsors include MAHEC, the NC Oncology Navigator Association, and the NC Cancer Prevention and Control Branch.

Cancer patients experience a wide range of unmet supportive needs. Increasing access to services will ultimately improve the quality of life. This conference will address updates on new information and technology that is being developed and implemented to meet the specific needs of this population.

The NCONA conference welcomes our keynote speaker, Theresa Brown, PhD, RN. Theresa is a practicing nurse, New York Times columnist, and commentator in both print and broadcast national media, including CNN.com, Slate, Salon.com, The American Journal of Nursing, C-SPAN Book TV, and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. She is a leading voice on healthcare as seen from the nurse’s point of view.

In her New York Times bestselling book, The Shift, Theresa Brown takes us on rounds where she is responsible for the care and management of four patients on a particular day in the hospital. She shows us what it really takes to be on the human side of a medical institution—lives can be lost, life-altering treatment decisions made, and dreams fulfilled or irrevocably stolen—all in the span of twelve hours. Join us to learn her perspectives on “Healing our Healthcare System: Novel Ideas for Reclaiming Care.”
