Paint It Forward For LLS With Team RadOnc For Noreen

Wine and DesignTeam RadOnc for Noreen,  a Duke Cancer Institute team, is kicking off its fundraising campaign for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s annual Triangle Light The Night Walk with its annual Wine and Design Durham benefit. Proceeds will be credited to Duke Cancer Institute/Team Noreen and support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Team RadOnc for Noreen, formerly known as "Team Noreen," was founded by former Duke radiation oncology nurse Nicole Kenney, BSN, RN, OCN, CNIII, when Kenney's mother Noreen, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) nearly a decade ago. Acute myeloid leukemia, a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes abnormal myeloblasts (types of white blood cells), eventually claimed Noreen's life.

Each year since 2010, Kenney had fundraised, in Noreen's honor, to support leukemia research. Though Kenney left Duke this spring, Rustica B. Cerillo, MAN, BSN, RN, OCN, is now captaining the Light the Night team and carrying on the Wine and Design tradition.

"I had buddied with Nicole on the Wine and Design event since 2016, and we always had successful Light the Night walks as well," said Cerillo. "I wanted continue this legacy. This year, with a desire to increase awareness, we're opening Wine and Design to the public, and I have high hopes that we can get more people to join us."

Guests are invited to “paint it forward" on Saturday, October 5, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

An instructor will help participants "unleash their inner artist" by guiding them, step by step, to create a beautiful fall landscape. (pictured at left) No experience is necessary.

All painting supplies, are included in the registration fee of $45 per painter, but guests are encouraged to bring their own beverages (any type) and snacks. Children can register with a supervising adult. To register, Visit Wine and Design online.
