The 24th Annual Susan G. Komen® Triangle Race for the Cure, presented locally by Duke Cancer Institute, will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at The Frontier in Research Triangle Park (RTP).

“Our goal at this year’s Triangle Race for the Cure is to raise $1 million,” said Valencia Davis, President of the Board of Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast. “The race is our single biggest fundraiser each year and supports our mission of meeting the most critical needs in our communities as well as investing in research to prevent and cure breast cancer."

The Race attracts thousands of participants, many of whom are survivors and individuals living with metastatic breast cancer. The annual event features a 5k run/walk and an inspiring Survivor/Thriver Celebration that honors participants who have battled breast cancer, are battling breast cancer, or are living with stage IV/metastatic breast cancer. Plans also include an expanded Tailgate Zone with food trucks, a beer-tasting garden, and fun activities for all ages.

“The Duke Cancer Institute is proud to continue its long-standing partnership with Komen Race For The Cure® by serving as local presenting sponsor,” said Michael Kastan, MD, PhD, Executive Director of Duke Cancer Institute. “This continuing relationship unites the organizations’ shared passion to end breast cancer by ensuring that science continues to move forward towards the goals of prevention and cures.”

For the fifth year, the Research Triangle Foundation (RTF) will host the Triangle Race for the Cure, which is the most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer in North Carolina. The race raises significant funds for the breast cancer movement, supports those living with metastatic breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.

Scott Levitan, President and CEO of RTF said “2020 is the year to support Komen’s Race for the Cure in achieving its audacious $1,000,000 fundraising goal. The Research Triangle Foundation is committed to encouraging our 300 RTP companies, vendors and suppliers to help make it happen.”

The Komen Triangle Race for the Cure® raises awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. Seventy-five percent of the net funds raised stay in the local community to support breast health services, screening, treatment and programs for women and families in a 29-county service area. The remaining twenty-five percent supports Susan G. Komen’s national research program, which funds groundbreaking research, including breast cancer research at multiple North Carolina universities.

“We invite individuals of all ages and fitness levels including survivors and thrivers to join us on May 2. Together we can race to achieve our Bold Goal of reducing cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026,” added Davis.
