Shining a light for supportive care and survivorship, more than 160 guests attended the 27th Annual Nancy Weaver Emerson Tree of Hope Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 1.
"The event was a wonderful success and symbolized the strength and hope felt by those coping with cancer," said Cheyenne Corbett, PhD, LMFT, director of the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program. "Our guests came together to honor loved ones and to recognize all those who work to support patients through the challenges of cancer."
This year's lighting ceremony recognized 2017 Light of Hope honorees, which included the past and present donors, volunteers, and staff who have made the Duke Cancer Patient Support program possible.
Fundraising continues through the end of the month. Patients, their loved ones and Duke faculty and staff are invited to honor and remember family and friends by sponsoring a light on the Tree of Hope. Corresponding tribute cards will be provided. Lights are $10 each. Donations will be accepted at the cancer center’s Belk Boutique through January 2017. Proceeds benefit the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program.
