Principles and Practice of Gynecologic Oncology: Edition 7

UPDATE: In September 2018 the British Medical Association (BMA) recognized Principles and Practice of Gynecologic Oncology 7th Edition as a “highly commended” book in the field of oncology.
Andrew Berchuck, MD, James M. Ingram Professor Gynecologic Oncology and director of the Duke Division of Gynecologic Oncology, is one of four editors of a textbook, “Principles and Practice of Gynecologic Oncology: Edition 7.”
The latest edition, marking its 25th anniversary, is said to offer a “new global focus, new editorial team and new content.” It is considered an authoritative reference for understanding and treating gynecologic cancers. The book includes an updated chapter on pharmacology of gynecologic cancers and a new chapter on targeted therapies.
"When this text was conceived 25 years ago it solely focused on defining the standard of care in developed nations," Berchuck said. "Now for the first time it brings a truly global perspective as our community has united to reduce suffering and death from these cancers throughout the world."
This edition maintains the practical, multidisciplinary approach that encompasses surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and pathology, reflecting the many recent advances in each area.
Berchuck received his medical degree in 1980 from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in OB-GYN at Case Western Reserve University and a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Berchuck's research interests focus on gynecologic cancers, including a nationally recognized program in translational research related to the causes of uterine and ovarian cancers. He is a leader of the North Carolina Ovarian Cancer Study — a study that has enrolled more than 2,500 participants with a goal of identifying genetic and behavioral factors that affect ovarian cancer risk.
Featured editors also include:
Dennis S. Chi, MD, FACOG, FACS, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
Don S. Dizon, MD, Massachussets General Hospital
Catheryn M. Yashar, MD, UC San Diego Health
“Principles and Practice of Gynecologic Oncology: Edition 7” is currently available on Google Play and Wal-Mart.
Note: Andrew Berchuck, MD, will lead the charge at this year's Gail Parkins Memorial Ovarian Cancer Walk and 5K Run. The event benefits ovarian cancer research at Duke. For more information or to register, visit OvarianAwareness.org.
