WATCH! Shine a Light: Tree of Hope 2021

By: Julie Poucher Harbin, Senior Writer, DCI

UPDATE (DEC. 3, 2021): This event has already taken place. View above.
The Duke Cancer Patient Support Program will host the 31st Annual Tree of Hope Lighting Ceremony on Thurs., Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.
During this virtual broadcast, patients and their families and Duke Cancer Institute administrators and staff will come together to share messages of hope and inspiration. (Registration is required.)
"As the season of goodwill approaches, the Trees of Hope at Duke Cancer Center Durham and Duke Cancer Center Raleigh will once again illuminate the night sky," said Kristy Everette Sartin, LRT/CTRS, director of External Relations for the Supportive Care and Survivorship Center. "Each light on those trees will shine in memory of loved ones lost and in honor of patients, family and friends whose lives have been touched by cancer and the staff who continue to provide unwavering compassionate care. Altogether these lights represent the HOPE that outshines the darkness around it."
Patients, their family and friends are invited to purchase a luminary to honor their Healthcare Hero or to honor a beloved caregiver. DCI staff will place the luminaries around the trees of hope in Durham and Raleigh on Dec. 2 and they will remain lit through Dec. 31. While the luminaries aren’t individually labeled with names, the names associated with purchased luminaries will be on display during the virtual ceremony and posted to the Tree of Hope website afterwards.
Individuals are also invited to purchase a Tribute card or make a direct gift to the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program in honor of or in memory of a loved one. The names of those honored will be displayed at the close of the virtual event.
Note: If you would like the names of those whom you are honoring or memorializing to be on display during the virtual Tree of Hope Lighting Ceremony — whether through the purchase of a luminary, a tribute card or through a direct gift to the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program — orders must be received by November 30.
