DCI Community Outreach, Engagement, and Equity (COEE)

DCI COEE to present, with Duke and community partners, the annual Men's Health Screening event at Lincoln Community Health Center & Duke Primary Care Croasdaile.

One of Eleanor Scott Bell's earliest memories is of picking tobacco to supplement the family income. They were a family of nine with a large extended family — part of the Lumbee Tribe of NC, "People of the Dark Water."

The series is a collaboration between DCI’s Disparities SPORE and the DCI Community Outreach, Engagement, and Equity (COEE) Program.

DCI and Duke Heart clinicians, the DCI COEE team, and the Quit at Duke team will lead several screening and health education sessions. 

The DCI Community Outreach, Engagement, and Equity program hosted the inaugural MaryAnn Black Distinguished Health Equity Lecture in honor of the late MaryAnn Black.

The DCI COEE hosted "Cancer Chat: Colorectal Cancer, Perianal Conditions, and Beyond" — part of its mission to advance equity for the LGBTQIA+ community.

DCI cancer disparities and healthcare delivery researchers Steven Patierno, PhD, and Nadine Barrett, PhD, are part of national efforts to mitigate cancer health disparities.

"Sometimes we have to go on a journey we don't want to go on. But I'm getting better," said breast cancer survivor Vennice Roberts.

DCI COEE moves the conversation forward on the barriers faced by sexual & gender minorities in accessing cancer care and why these barriers exist.

The Eighth Annual DCI Scientific Retreat was one for the books.

On Feb. 2 at noon, the Southeastern American Indian Cancer Health Equity Partnership hosts DCI breast surgeon Hannah Woriax, MD, for a virtual lecture (with CME credit available).

In October, the DCI Office of Health Equity & the Mexican Consulate in Raleigh brought awareness to breast, uterine, and cervical cancer detection and prevention.

Community outreach & engagement teams from DCI, Wake Forest and UNC cancer centers have launched an initiative focused on the cancer-related health needs of American Indian communities.
