Caring House Gala To Honor Nelson Chao

Caring House will host its 27 Annual Gala on Saturday, Jan. 27. This year’s gala honors Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular division chief Nelson Chao, MD, MBA, the Donald D. and Elizabeth G. Cooke Cancer Research Professor.
For more than 26 years Caring House has provided a home away from home for cancer patients treated at Duke Cancer Institute. Caring House features 18 beautiful rooms, a great room, library, laundry room, gym and a fully equipped community kitchen.
Guests enjoy a supportive community setting where they can rest, relax, find quiet spaces or mingle with others while engaging in fun-filled activities.
“Our mission is to provide a healing environment at an affordable price,” said Sheridan van Wagenberg, executive director of Caring House. “Because of the generosity of the community and area businesses, we are able to offer rooms at a price point well below market.”
Caring House is located in Durham about 2.5 miles from Duke Cancer Center. Rooms at Caring House are just $35 per night, and cholarships are available to those who qualify.
To ensure continued access, Caring House organizes an annual gala benefit. Activities include dinner, dancing and a lively auction.
The 2018 Caring House Gala Benefit will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Washington Duke Inn and Country Club in Durham, N.C. To learn more or to register, please visit Caring House.
