Stacia Smart rolled in to Duke Medicine Circle on Oct. 8 to welcoming cheers. She had just cycled 1,100-mile from Boston, Mass. in memory of her boyfriend Owen Strong who passed away from glioblastoma in Jan. 2020. The ride, dubbed G'Owen Strong 2021, crossed through places of significance to Owen along the way. Owen had been under the "exceptional care" of Henry Friedman, MD, at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at DCI (PRTBTC) and had also received treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Funds raised were to be split between the two institutions. Nearly $150,000 was raised for glioblastoma research at PRTBTC via Angels Among Us Team G'Owen Strong.
