Hardie-Hood Named Med. Dir. Duke Cancer Center North Durham

Duke Cancer Institute medical oncologist Robin Hardie-Hood, MD, division chief of Medical Oncology at Duke Regional Hospital, assumed the additional role of medical director of Duke Cancer Center North Durham at Duke Regional Hospital on July 1, DCI and Duke Regional Hospital oncology leadership recently announced.

Duke Cancer Center North Durham is an essential part of both the DCI system and Duke Regional Hospital. Recognized as one of the best community hospitals in the state, Duke Regional has served Durham, Orange, Person, Granville and Alamance counties and the surrounding communities for 40 years.

“DCI and Duke Regional, in partnership, continue to expand our specialized cancer services in North Durham,” said executive director of DCI, Michael B. Kastan, MD, PhD. “Dr. Hardie-Hood’s demonstrated leadership and her steadfast commitment to cancer care in our local community, since she joined the hospital, has been critical to our progress on this front.”

Ross MD, MHA. “Dr. Robin Hardie-Hood is well-suited for this newly-created leadership role.”

Hardie-Hood, who joined Duke Regional and the Duke Department of Medicine in 2015, will also sit on the newly-created DCI Clinical Executive Committee — a group dedicated to strengthening the integration of the Oncology Service Line across the Duke University Health System.

Hardie-Hood received her medical degree at Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine (Pennsylvania) in 1998. She went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (New Jersey), and fellowship in Hematology-Oncology at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson and Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Hardie-Hood is board certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine in Medical Oncology and in Hematology.

In 2018, she received a DCI Superstar award, given annually in recognition of exceptional individuals (one at each DCI cancer center) who excel within their area of service and go above and beyond on a regular basis. Hardie-Hood was nominated for the award by two oncology nursing coworkers at Duke Cancer Center North Durham, for her “compassion and excellence,” not only in caring for her patients and their families, but in supporting her colleagues.
