The topic for March edition of the monthly "Conversations with Our Community" webinar series — hosted by the Duke Cancer Institute Office of Health Equity in collaboration with community partner Nuestras Voces Network — is "Colorectal Cancer: Early Detection Saves Lives.”
March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer is the number 2 cancer killer in the U.S. after lung cancer.
This event, to be held on March 22 at 1:00 pm, will feature:
- Emily Butler Bell, MPH, Director, National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCRT) – Colorectal Cancer Interventions
- Julius M. Wilder MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Duke Division of Gastroenterology and Duke Clinical Research Institute
- LaSonia Barnett, MA, Sr. Program Coordinator, Duke Cancer Institute, Office of Health Equity
- Willa Robinson, MPH, MAED, MCHES, Program Manager, Durham County Dept. of Public Health
This panel of experts will discuss colon cancer screening and diagnosis and the role of patient navigation as a way to help reduce cancer disparities among the medically underserved.
Participants will also hear from the director of the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCRT) in an informational session about proven colorectal cancer screening tests, and how timely CRC screening and diagnostic services are being implemented at the community level.
